The African Union Commission (AUC) has extended a prestigious invitation to the Edo State Commissioner for Power to address a high-level continental summit in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in recognition of the state’s impressive advancements in the energy sector.
The invitation was formally conveyed in a letter signed by Mr. Regis Tade, Innovation Expert in the Directorate of Industry, Mining, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (IMET), under the African Union Commission’s Department of Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals (ETTIM).
The Commissioner has been invited to serve as an Inspirational Speaker on the Founder Stage during the Joint 9th Specialised Technical Committee (STC) on Finance and the 5th STC on Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals. The summit is scheduled to hold in Abidjan from July 20 to 24, 2026.
According to the AUC, the invitation reflects the “notable progress achieved by Edo State in the energy sector,” positioning the state’s experience as a shining example of innovation, visionary leadership, and results-oriented governance that other African nations can learn from.
The high-profile gathering will convene government officials, policymakers, development partners, private sector leaders, and various stakeholders to explore strategies for financing Africa’s industrialisation and promoting sustainable economic development across the continent.
Organisers expect Edo State to share valuable insights on its energy infrastructure reforms and achievements, which are anticipated to enrich discussions on industrial growth and long-term sustainability.
The Commission noted that detailed programme information, participation guidelines, and logistical arrangements have been included in the formal invitation sent to the Edo State Governor. It also expressed readiness to provide any additional clarification needed ahead of the event. A copy of the correspondence was forwarded to the Commissioner for Power, Hon. Paul Usenbo.
