Dr. Shehu Umar, the Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, delivered a stern warning to newly admitted students during the institution’s momentous 40th matriculation ceremony. He cautioned against engaging in cultism, examination malpractice, and other vices that would hinder their academic progress and future prospects.
Emphasizing the polytechnic’s zero-tolerance policy towards cultism and examination malpractice, Dr. Umar urged the students to steer clear of joining any cult groups or societies. He made it clear that the management would not hesitate to expel any student found involved in such activities. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of integrity during examinations, warning that breaching examination rules would result in rustication or expulsion.
In the 2021/2022 academic session, a total of 11,250 students were admitted into the polytechnic, with 7,820 pursuing Ordinary National Diploma (OND) courses and 3,430 enrolled in Higher National Diploma (HND) programs.
Highlighting the polytechnic’s exceptional academic standards and its reputation as one of the finest in the nation, the rector reiterated the management’s commitment to maintaining excellence. He revealed the establishment of a 60-seat E-learning center to complement existing e-learning facilities on campus. Additionally, he announced the completion of a lecture hall for the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and a 40-room hostel for student use.
Dr. Umar disclosed plans to enhance academic programs in the School of Information and Communication Technology, Engineering Technology, and Business Administration. He urged the students to take full advantage of the available facilities to acquire comprehensive knowledge and become employable upon graduation.
Assuring students of a conducive learning environment, the rector expressed management’s determination to sustain the polytechnic’s high academic standards. The institution will continue to provide necessary facilities and infrastructure for the benefit of staff and students.
