Police nab 30 cultists over killings in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has announced the arrest of 30 suspects linked to the cult-related killings that rocked the state in the past three days.

The Command Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, said in a statement on Friday that the command acted swiftly after receiving reports of the killings in different locations in the state.

According to her statement, “The ones arrested are David Ebube, Chiedu Rex, Samuel Ebi, Charles Eke, Monday Work of God, Kelvin Izea, Harry Christ, Emmanuel John, Isreal Omale, Emmanuel Eghaghae, Destiny Reuben, Precious Osaemwingie, Biggy Tortive, Moses Edebo, and Okoro Iyobun.

“Others are Ezekiel Ezi, Frank Amadasu, Efosa Kelvin, Desmond Moses, Jude Precious, Keneth Osaratin, Joshua Osarodion, Chidi Adia, Osas Emmanuel, Osas Clifford, Godstime Emmanuel, Julius Urhie, Philip Agho, Godbless Mathiew, and Kingsley Edet.

“The Edo State Police Command has responded to killings by rival cult groups in several parts of Edo State over the past 72 hours by conducting large raids and apprehending alleged cultists connected to the crimes.

“As soon as the command received reliable intelligence on August 25, 2022, regarding cult activity in Uselu, Benin City, its agents mobilized to the spot.

“When the command’s agents arrived on the spot, they discovered the lifeless corpse of a young man who would eventually be identified as Taiwo Edigie, 40 years old, with his head cut and dumped somewhere else.

“Additionally, a comparable report was received that same day of a young male who has not yet been recognized, living along Imuetiyan Street off Ojo Road, Ugbowo,” the statement read
