Amidst glitz and glamour, the First Lady of Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, officially inaugurated the second edition of the highly anticipated Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT), urging all participating teams to embody the true essence of sportsmanship and fair play throughout the thrilling competition.
With a splendid display, each of the 13 teams proudly showcased their traditional colors at the magnificent Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City during the grand opening ceremony, igniting an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation.
Scheduled to run from Wednesday, September 7, 2022, to Saturday, September 17, 2022, this year’s edition of the tournament aims to bolster the government’s campaign against the menace of drug abuse in the state.
Extending her warm welcome to the competing teams, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki expressed her joy, stating, “I am delighted to welcome you all to this year’s edition of the much-anticipated Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament. I guarantee that you will have an unforgettable experience during this captivating event.”
Emphasizing the tournament’s objective of complementing the government’s efforts in curbing drug abuse, she noted, “While we witnessed the participation of 12 teams last year, this year, we have expanded to 13 teams competing in the tournament. We will continue to grow and ensure that our vision of combatting social vices among our youths, particularly the girl-child, becomes a tangible reality.”
