EdoHIS Hits 70, 000 subscriptions, Extends Health Insurance to Political Appointees
The Edo State Health Insurance Scheme (EDOHIS) has commenced the enrolment of Special Advisers (SAs) and Senior Special Advisers (SSAs) in Edo State South Senatorial District. This initiative is part of the ongoing mobile enrollment and enlightenment campaign conducted by EDOHIS.
The event witnessed a tremendous turnout of political appointees from the district, building upon the previous meeting between the representatives of political appointees and the Scheme’s management earlier this year.
During the gathering, Mr. Efemwenkiekie Nesta, the Director of ICT at EDOHIS, stressed that the scheme’s mandate is to provide health insurance for all Edo residents, regardless of their social status. He highlighted how the Commission has accredited various facilities, including private and public hospitals, leveraging technology to deliver high-quality healthcare services to the people of Edo.
Enacted into law by the Obaseki administration, the Health Insurance Scheme aims to address the declining health standards caused by the inability of residents to afford proper medical care.
Mr. Efemwenkiekie explained that the scheme is funded by Consolidated Statutory Funding from both the Federal and State Governments, ensuring easy access to healthcare, especially in emergencies.
He further elucidated that Health Insurance operates on a collective contribution model, where enrollees and the Government jointly contribute to a common purse to cover hospital bills for enrollees and the vulnerable in times of ill health.
Since its inception in 2019, EDOHIS has successfully enrolled over 70,000 Edo residents, granting them access to high-quality healthcare at a fraction of the actual medical costs.
Mr. Efosa Oyegun, the Business Development Director, emphasized that the program offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including preventive care, consultations, general practice, outpatient admissions, maternal and neonatal care, minor surgical procedures, laboratory services, radiology, physiotherapy, pharmacies, emergency services, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, primary eye care, and dental care.
He said,
“The program offers a full clinical benefits to individuals of Edo, including preventive, counseling, general practice, short term confirmations, maternal, neonatal, and conceptive wellbeing, minor surgeries, research facility, radiological, physiotherapy, drug stores, crises, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, essential eye, and dental consideration, among different administrations.
“The commission’s monitoring group makes impromptu reviews of the different offices to ensure that the settled upon norms of administrations are maintained to guarantee that enrollees get incredible consideration from the offices that are allotted to them.”
To maintain the agreed-upon standards of services, the Commission’s monitoring team conducts regular inspections of the facilities assigned to enrollees, ensuring that excellent care is consistently provided.
The enrollment outreach was held at the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) as part of EDOHIS’ commitment to educating and involving Edo residents in the significance of health insurance.
