On the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Marcus Onobun, has extended his heartfelt appreciation to the teachers of the state for their dedication to nurturing the holistic development of students through the Edo Best initiative, a brainchild of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
The theme for this year’s celebration, “Transformation of education begins with the teacher,” resonates with the Speaker’s message, emphasizing the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the future of children.
According to a press statement from Mrs. Ivy Adodo Ebojele, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Rt Hon Onobun highlighted the significant amount of time children spend in school, away from their homes, and the crucial role of competent teachers in imparting quality education and moral values.
Aligning with the state’s educational reform and the transformation agenda for teachers, the Speaker acknowledged the Edo Best program’s focus on continuous professional development for educators, aimed at enhancing the educational landscape of the state.
Rt Hon Onobun also underscored the contribution of teachers to nation-building, as they guide students towards ethical and value-driven lives, ultimately fostering future leaders.
