The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has inaugurated 75 Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs) for the Edo North Senatorial District. They include four SAs and twenty-one SSAs each from the three zones in the local government area.
The inauguration took place at Igarra, the administrative Headquarters of Akoko Edo local government area.
The Governor, during the inauguration which held on Monday 30th October 2023, stressed the importance of diligence and accountability in carrying out their duties. He also underscored the significance of women’s inclusion in leadership positions.
Addressing the newly appointed SSAs and SAs, Governor Obaseki expressed his commitment to ensuring that Akoko Edo receives its deserved attention and resources within the state. He highlighted the crucial role of these appointees in providing regular updates and information from the grassroots level to the Governor’s Office, which would inform decision-making and drive progress.
The Governor stated, “Today, I am inaugurating you to initiate a new process. We aim for the state to take a keen interest and active involvement in the affairs of Akoko Edo, working closely with the local government to drive development. To serve as my Special Assistant or Senior Special Assistant, it is essential that you reside here. This is because I rely on you to provide weekly reports on what is happening in your community and ward. Politics should not be superficial, but rather focused on fostering infrastructural development. Politics without tangible impact is simply a waste.”
