A Benin High Court has ordered the remand of 26-year-old Gabriel Caleb in a correctional facility following allegations of his involvement in a murder case.
The court hearing took place on Wednesday, where Caleb was implicated in a conspiracy that led to the death of one Sule Yakubu, 36, on or around January 2 in the Ihievbe Community.
Police prosecutor I.I. Ekibade informed the court that Caleb and unidentified accomplices, armed with firearms and other lethal weapons, shot Yakubu before allegedly burying him in a shallow grave. The actions of the suspects are said to contravene sections 247(1) and 242 of the Criminal Law of Edo State Law, 2022.
At the hearing, Caleb did not enter a plea. Justice Williams Azeigbemhin ordered his continued detention pending legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The case has been adjourned to March 28 for mention.
