Edo Assembly Approves Okpebholo’s Loan Recovery Effort, Appoints Minority Leadership

The Edo State House of Assembly has approved Governor Monday Okpebholo’s request to engage TIARUS WHITE CONSULTS LTD for the recovery of funds due to the state government from the Project Gazelle Afriexim loan.

The approval, granted during Tuesday’s plenary session, also allows for a 10% deduction at source as professional fees for the consultancy.

Speaker Blessing Agbebaku read the Governor’s letter, highlighting the importance of joining 36 other states in recovering the loan, which he stated would support socio-economic development within the state.

Lawmakers approved the request via a voice vote. Agbebaku noted that “there was the need to support and grant the request of the governor, adding that the funds would aid socio-economic development in the states.”

In a separate development, the PDP nominated Mr. Charity Aiguobarueghian as Minority Leader and Mr. Yekini Idiaye as Minority Whip.

Aiguobarueghian previously served as Majority Leader before a recent shift in the Assembly’s majority status.
