The Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed Ohimere Oseh Ohisikhian as the Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
His confirmation followed the presentation and consideration of the report from the House Committee on Rules and Business regarding his screening exercise.
During the confirmation process, lawmakers emphasized the critical need for Ohisikhian to enhance the state’s primary healthcare delivery system, ensuring it effectively addresses the escalating health needs of Edo residents. They tasked him with implementing innovative strategies to improve accessibility and quality of care across the state.
Meanwhile, the Assembly opted to defer the second reading of three significant bills, including those aimed at bolstering the state’s road infrastructure and higher education. The decision was prompted by a motion from Hon. Yekini Idiaye, representing Akoko Edo 1 (PDP), requesting additional time for thorough review.
“We need more time to properly scrutinize these bills,” Hon. Idiaye stated, emphasizing the importance of ensuring they align with the developmental goals of Edo State.
The bills in question include one seeking to amend the Edo State University Uzairue (Amendment) Law, No.4 of 2020. The proposed amendment aims to enhance the university’s administrative efficiency.
Another bill seeks to establish the State Roads Fund (SRF) and the Edo State Roads Fund Board and Administration (EDSRFBA). This legislation is intended to create a sustainable funding mechanism for road management and maintenance across the state.
Finally, the third bill proposes the establishment of the Edo Rural Access Road Agency (RARA). RARA, if established, would be responsible for the management, rehabilitation, and maintenance of rural roads throughout Edo State.
The Assembly’s decision to postpone the second reading underscores its commitment to meticulous legislative scrutiny and its dedication to crafting legislation that effectively serves the needs of the Edo people. Further deliberations on the bills are expected to occur in the coming weeks.
