The Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission has withdrawn employment letters earlier issued to 324 individuals, declaring the appointments invalid.
In a statement released to the press in Benin City on Wednesday, the Commission clarified that the recruitment exercise was not sanctioned and therefore lacked legal standing. The announcement was jointly signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Sir Ezehi Igbas, and Secretary, Isoken Nehi-Olotu.
According to the statement, the letters of appointment were described as “unauthorized, illegal, and unlawful,” and as such, have been rendered null and void. The Commission emphasized that the action was necessary to maintain due process and uphold the integrity of its operations.
The leadership expressed regret over the development, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to the affected individuals.
“We sincerely apologize to all recipients of the recalled letters and deeply regret any hardship this may have created,” the statement read.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to transparency and adherence to lawful procedures in future recruitment exercises, assuring the public that proper channels will be followed to avoid similar controversies.
