Desmond Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, has expressed pride in supporting the Super Falcons as they pursue a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
Speaking to journalists in Benin on Wednesday, Enabulele highlighted Governor Monday Okpebholo’s strategic investment in sports as a tool to empower youth and foster talent development.
“Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to sports is yielding visible results, creating opportunities for young people and promoting national pride,” Enabulele stated.
He emphasized that the state’s sports strategy focuses on engagement and empowerment beyond mere entertainment.
Enabulele praised the Super Falcons for their resilience and patriotism despite challenges, such as delayed training kits, noting their impressive performance in reaching the semi-finals with only one goal conceded.
“The team’s character and unity have been remarkable,” he said, commending the coaching staff for instilling discipline and composure, evident in the squad’s journey to the semi-final against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
With Nigeria’s Super Falcons maintaining an unbeaten streak and set to face host Morocco in Saturday’s final, Enabulele expressed confidence in their ability to clinch the title.
“If the players replicate their outstanding performances, mission X will be accomplished,” he said, urging the team to sustain their momentum to extend Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
