The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has expanded its reach with the unveiling of 14 new centres dedicated to Tax Identification Number (TIN) registration across the state.
The initiative, announced on Thursday in Benin City by Mr. Courage Eboigbe, Head of Corporate Communications, is part of a broader effort to decentralise tax services and make compliance more accessible to citizens.
According to Eboigbe, the move was approved by the Oladele Bankole-Balogun–led board of the agency to bring services closer to taxpayers ahead of the nationwide implementation of the new Nigerian Tax Acts scheduled for January 1, 2026.
The centres are strategically located within zonal tax offices across Edo State, including:
- Oredo
- Egor
- Ikpoba-Okha
- Uhunmwonde
- Ovia North-East
- Orhionmwon
- Ovia South-West
- Esan West
- Esan North-East
- Akoko-Edo
- Etsako East
- Etsako West
- Owan East
In addition to the physical centres, EIRS has introduced a USSD code (*668#) in collaboration with the Joint Tax Board (JTB). This mobile-based solution allows taxpayers to instantly register for a TIN, verify existing numbers, and generate certificates directly from their phones.
Eboigbe explained that the service has also launched a Diaspora TIN platform, now operational at 40 locations across 13 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. This ensures that Nigerians abroad can conveniently obtain or verify their Tax Identification Numbers without returning home.
“These initiatives are designed to promote inclusivity, ensure compliance, broaden participation in the formal economy, and enhance the ease of doing business,” Eboigbe stated. He emphasized that the reforms will particularly benefit rural dwellers and diaspora communities who previously faced challenges in accessing tax services.
Taxpayers can also confirm existing TINs or register anew by visiting the JTB portal at tin.jtb.gov.ng, while enquiries can be directed to 0813 097 0146 or info@eirs.gov.ng.
