Edo Government Vows to Invest More in Education, Partners with Teachers

The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to continuous investment in the state’s education sector, promising to work with teachers and other stakeholders to enhance the quality of learning in all schools in the state.

Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., made the pledge when he hosted members of the Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.

Okungbowa said that the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration is determined to transform every sector of the state, with education as a priority because of its vital role in societal development.

He encouraged the teachers and other Edo workers to be committed and dedicated in the performance of their duties, supporting the government’s efforts at transforming every sector of the state.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the welfare of teachers, the Head of Service said, “the Edo State Government will always put the welfare of workers as a top priority as every Edo worker is valuable and essential for the programmes and policies of the government.”

He added, “You are valuable to us as a government, as you are the shapers of the right ethos of the society. The government values you and places you at a high level.”

On his part, Chairman of the Union, Comrade Bernard Ajobeiewe, revealed that they were at the Government House to formally introduce the newly elected executives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers to the Head of Service.

He also thanked Governor Obaseki for the ongoing reforms in the state education sector, including the promotion of teachers, provision of a conducive learning and teaching environment and availability of teaching facilities to facilitate service delivery, among others.
