The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Chief Blessing Agbebaku, has announced that Governor Monday Okpebholo will formally present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Assembly on Tuesday, December 16.
Agbebaku made the disclosure during Monday’s plenary session at the Assembly complex in Benin City, urging lawmakers to turn out in full readiness for the governor’s presentation. He emphasized the importance of the budget session, describing it as a critical step in shaping Edo’s fiscal and developmental priorities for the coming year.
In a related development, the Speaker issued a stern warning to contractors handling state projects, advising them to cooperate with the special ad hoc committee tasked with monitoring project execution. He stressed that the committee was carrying out its lawful oversight duty and that the Assembly would not tolerate substandard work.
“The House will not hesitate to write to Governor Monday Okpebholo to revoke contracts of contractors who fail to deliver quality work. This serves as a warning to all contractors handling state projects,” Agbebaku declared.
Agbebaku also officially announced the defection of Mr. Omosigho Uyi, the lawmaker representing Oredo East Constituency, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
With Uyi’s defection, the number of APC lawmakers in the Edo Assembly has risen to 21, further consolidating the ruling party’s majority in the House.
The upcoming budget presentation is expected to outline the government’s spending priorities for 2026, focusing on infrastructure, social services, and economic growth. Meanwhile, the Assembly’s firm stance on project oversight signals its determination to ensure accountability and quality delivery in state contracts.
