The Edo State Government has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Edo Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo. The Edo Governor-elect has been accused of making unsubstantiated claims regarding looting and vandalization by government officials within the state.
Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, articulated the government’s position in a formal statement, urging Okpebholo to present specific evidence to back his allegations. “The Edo State Government is giving a 48-hour ultimatum to Senator Monday Okpebholo to provide verifiable proof to substantiate his claims that government officials are looting and vandalising assets in the State,” Osagie stated.
The government has challenged the senator to disclose the names of any banks that, according to his allegations, have been involved in loans taken by the administration over the past three months. This call is grounded in the legal principle that those who make claims must also provide evidence.
Osagie further emphasized the seriousness of governing the state, stating, “We are a very serious government, and there is no room for such spurious and unfounded allegations.”
He insisted that Okpebholo and his associates must furnish credible and verifiable proof to substantiate their claims within the stipulated timeframe, asserting that “the business of governance in Edo State is very serious, and the office of Governor is not for palace jesters.”
