Edo State has embarked on a pioneering venture with the esteemed Foton Motor Group, an acclaimed global leader in vehicle manufacturing. This alliance is set to inaugurate a cutting-edge vehicle assembly and production facility within the state’s borders.
The Managing Director of Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), Mr. Kelvin Uwaibi, disclosed that this collaborative effort is poised to generate substantial training and job opportunities, as well as significantly diminish the expense of vehicles across Nigeria and the broader African continent.
Mr. Uwaibi articulated, “Foton Motor Group’s expansion into Nigeria marks a significant progression from their longstanding trade relations. The establishment of an automobile assembly plant in Edo State is a venture we fully endorse and will support relentlessly. This factory is anticipated to address vehicular challenges in Nigeria and Africa by way of strategic endeavors and investments.”
He further asserted that this investment is a boon for Edo State, promising to enhance skill development and provide more accessible vehicles and components to the people of Edo and beyond.
Project Manager of Foton Motor Group, Jimmy Liuo, highlighted the firm’s enduring dedication to Nigeria’s economic growth.
Mr. Liuo declared, “Edo State’s conducive business climate was a key factor in our decision. The forthcoming vehicle assembly operation will introduce premier Chinese brands, including various truck categories and CNG vehicles, to the Nigerian market, ultimately leading to more affordable vehicle options.”
