The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the growth and development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Addressing attendees at the Stakeholders Dialogue on MSME Development and Implementation of the National MSME Policy in Edo State, Governor Obaseki highlighted plans to establish an industrial park that will provide essential power infrastructure for MSMEs to thrive and compete globally.
The event, organized by the Small Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) in collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Business, Trade, and Cooperatives (MBTC) and Edo State Skills Development Agency (Edojobs), with support from the Pro-poor Growth and Promotion of Empowerment in Nigeria-SEDIN Programme, took place at the Government House in Benin City.
Represented by the Commissioner of Trade, Business, and Cooperatives, Afishetu Braimoh, Governor Obaseki emphasized the vital role of the harmonious partnership between the state’s Ministry of Business, Trade, and Cooperatives and the Skills Development Agency in creating opportunities for the growth of MSMEs in Edo State. The collaborative efforts have facilitated skills acquisition, job creation, and enterprise development across various sectors of the state’s economy.
Recognizing MSMEs as the backbone of a thriving economy and the largest employers of labor, Governor Obaseki stated that his administration has prioritized the implementation of programs and initiatives designed to ensure the success of MSMEs in the state. The government has also facilitated the disbursement of credit facilities to MSMEs across key sectors, ensuring their continuity and expansion.
Participants at the event were encouraged to take advantage of the platform to showcase their products, services, and innovations to promote their businesses and explore potential collaborations.
Stakeholders, including representatives from SMEDAN and the GIZ-SEDIN Programme, emphasized the importance of a vibrant MSME ecosystem and the need for collaboration among various actors in driving the implementation of the National MSME Policy in Edo State. The establishment of an MSME policy and continued support from relevant agencies will position Edo MSMEs on the global stage.
