Edo Police Command Foils Kidnapping Attempt, Rescues 13-Month-Old Baby

In a daring operation, the Edo State Police Command neutralized three members of a six-man kidnapping gang, rescuing a 13-month-old baby in the process. The incident occurred in Achigbor Community along the Benin-Auchi road in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area.
According to ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, state deputy spokesperson, “The police received a distress call from the baby’s mother, Elizabeth Ojo, which led to a swift response from our operatives.”
The statement revealed that on September 13, 2022, at approximately 7:30 pm, Elizabeth Ojo reported that kidnappers had invaded her compound, vandalized her property, and abducted her 13-month-old baby. Police operatives promptly mobilized and pursued the kidnappers into the bush.
During the rescue operation, the kidnappers opened fire on the police, but three of the suspects were neutralized in the ensuing firefight. The remaining three suspects are currently at large, with ongoing bush combing efforts to apprehend them.
The rescued baby was reunited with the mother, and police recovered a cut-to-size double-barrel gun, a cutlass, and a battle axe from the scene.
CP Abutu Yaro commended the operatives for their swift action, urging citizens to remain vigilant and security-conscious, especially as the year draws to a close.
