The Edo State Police Command is appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of Timothy Gilbert, the man accused of an acid attack on his girlfriend, Angela Ogah, in Benin City.
The incident occurred in the Ihovbe Quarters neighborhood near Ikpoba Hill, and Gilbert reportedly fled the scene immediately after striking Ogah with acid.
According to CSP Moses Yamu, the command’s public relations officer, the two had reportedly been entangled in a dispute characterized by suspicions of infidelity. The argument reportedly escalated into a violent episode, culminating in the acid attack that left Ogah seriously injured. Yamu stressed that violence has no place in relationships and urged couples to seek peaceful resolutions, underscoring that “love is not by force.”
Ogah is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, where she is said to be fighting for her life. Police efforts to locate Gilbert intensified as investigators work to track him down and bring him into custody. It is believed that he fled the community to avoid arrest after the incident.
Ogah’s legal representative, John Izegaegbe, has addressed a petition to the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, seeking urgent intervention and justice for the victim. The request highlights the need for a swift investigation and accountability for the alleged attack.
The public appeal from the police comes as authorities continue to gather evidence and cooperate with medical professionals to assess Ogah’s condition and determine the appropriate legal course. The case has drawn attention to issues of violence against women and the protection of individuals from criminal attacks within communities.
