Edo State has secured an impressive second place in the national ranking of states with fibre optic infrastructure, showcasing its commitment to digital development. With a remarkable 4,892.71km of fibre optic cable network, Edo follows closely behind the leader, Lagos State, which boasts 7,864.60km out of the total 78,676km of cable infrastructure available in Nigeria.
The latest report, released by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, highlights Edo’s significant strides in expanding its digital backbone.
According to the ministry’s white paper titled ‘Deepening Nigeria’s National Backbone and Middle Mile Infrastructure,’ a total of 78,676km of fibre optic cables have been deployed as of 2023. Edo’s impressive ranking underscores its dedication to progress.
Following Edo on the list are other states that have also made significant strides in fibre deployment. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) stands at 4,472.03km, Ogun at 4,189.18km, Niger at 3,681.66km, Kaduna at 3,028.88km, and Delta at 2,750.42km. Kano and Kogi closely follow with 2,697.72km and 2,602.25km, respectively.
On the flip side, the report highlights the states with the least fibre deployment. Yobe leads the group with 1,233.31km, followed by Borno with 1,190.04km, Gombe with 1,182.40km, and Ekiti with 1,178.04km. Jigawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Plateau, Ebonyi, and Bayelsa complete the list with varying lengths of fibre infrastructure.
