The Edo State Executive Council has approved the construction of additional road projects spanning the three senatorial districts. This initiative aims to enhance mobility and ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and vehicles throughout the state.
Hon. Felix Akhabue, the State Commissioner for Works, affirmed that this decision aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s dedication to upgrading road infrastructure and other essential public assets across Edo State.
During an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Edo South Senatorial District, Commissioner Akhabue, along with supervising engineers, assessed progress and compliance with approved specifications. Sites visited included the Benin Technical School roads cluster (9.5 km) and a significant underground drainage system (1.2 km) designed to manage storm water flow into the Ikpoba River.
The inspection also covered the 7-kilometer Oluku–Okhumwn–Siluko Road, a strategic alternative route aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Benin City. Asphalt has been laid on 1.2 kilometers of the Okhumwn Road, with earthworks completed on an additional 4.5 kilometers.
Other projects inspected include Upper Ekenhuan Road, the 12.6-kilometer Urhuokhokho–Ugbineh Road, Asoro Hill–Siluko Road, Catholic Charismatic Renewal Church Road, and various roads in Utte. The team also reviewed the progress of the flyover bridges at Sapele Road and Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill.
Commissioner Akhabue expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, assuring that projects would be completed on schedule due to the timely release of funds to contractors. He emphasized the government’s commitment to sustaining infrastructure development across the state.
