Edo State Polytechnic Leap into Campus-Wide Internet Connectivity
Edo State Polytechnic, under the leadership of Professor Abiodun Falodun, has embarked on a significant technological upgrade, courtesy of a substantial investment from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
This initiative promises to revolutionize the campus with high-speed internet connectivity, propelling the institution into a new era of digital education and research.
The NCC’s generous project allocation will see the polytechnic’s campus in Usen, Ovia South West LGA, equipped with a robust 20 mbps internet connection. This enhancement is not just a boon for the academic environment but also a key component in advancing the e-governance initiatives spearheaded by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
In a communication to the institution, A. I. Sholanke, Director of the Projects Department at NCC, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We are pleased to inform you that your institution has been nominated from the Wireless Internet Cloud (WIC) Project implemented by the Nigerian Communications Commission under the Advance Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPTI).”
“The main objective of the Wireless Internet Cloud project is to provide internet connectivity in your institution for online teaching, learning, research, and development.”
The project’s scope includes the installation of Internet CPE with 20/20Mbps bandwidth, state-of-the-art wireless access points, a reliable power generation system, and an integrated UPS, ensuring uninterrupted digital access.
Professor Falodun highlighted the project as a culmination of a five-year journey towards digitizing the educational experience at Edo State Polytechnic. He noted the faculty’s readiness, having been trained in the Open Distance Flexible Learning system, to leverage this digital infrastructure for enhanced academic delivery.
“The project will improve internet connectivity in Usen community and environs and position the school to collaborate seamlessly with partners and international grant-making organisations to improve research and teaching,” said Prof. Falodun.
With a student population that has surged by over 500%, Usen Polytechnic continues to innovate, introducing cutting-edge programs that draw learners from all over Nigeria, solidifying its reputation as a hub of academic excellence.
