Edo State’s 30-year Development Plan to be Incorporated in School Curriculum

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has announced an innovative plan to incorporate the state’s 30-year development plan, which includes the Benin City Masterplan and the Edo Regional Development Plan, into the school curriculum.

This move aims to familiarize children with the comprehensive strategy and equip them to play active roles in its implementation.

Addressing journalists in the capital city of Benin, Obaseki emphasized the importance of integrating the development plans into the educational system. “It will become part of the learning process of students in our schools. It will be displayed, shown and taught in schools across the state for students to know what it looks like and have an idea of how their cities should look like, and have the ability to challenge their government or authorities in ensuring that the plans are maintained.” He said.

The governor outlined that the development plan, which is nearing completion and is expected to be finalized by the third quarter of next year, will provide a structured blueprint for the growth and progress of the state.

Governor Obaseki expressed his unwavering commitment to take necessary actions, even if they are not universally popular, to secure a prosperous future for the next generation. He emphasized the significance of enacting legislation to support the master plan, allowing for legal consequences if individuals act contrary to its guidelines.

“The master plan will be backed by law as we will legislate the master plan and when people do contrary to the master plan, they can be charged to court.” He stated.
