EdoSTAR is pipeline to full-time teaching employment – Oviawe
The Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, has reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to its workforce’s well-being.
Addressing concerns over the delayed salaries of nearly 2,000 EdoSTAR teaching fellows, Dr. Oviawe assured that Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration is working diligently to resolve the outstanding payments.
She urged the affected teachers to complete their biometric registration to facilitate the payment process, emphasizing that unregistered individuals would not receive their salaries due to this procedural requirement.
Dr. Oviawe also addressed and corrected widespread misunderstandings regarding the EdoSTAR program. Contrary to the belief that it offers only temporary or short-term employment, she explained that the initiative serves as a gateway to permanent government teaching positions for those who successfully finish the fellowship.
According to her: “I have heard some people say that the EdoSTAR Fellowship is a casual job. There seem to be a lot of misconceptions about what the fellowship is all about. No! It is not. This is a pipeline to going into full-time government’s employment as a full-time teacher.
“The purpose of the teaching fellowship is to guarantee that we have sufficient time to train a significant number of our graduates who lack teaching qualifications, in order to prepare them for careers in the field.”
