The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 25 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud at a cybercrime training facility in Benin City, Edo State. The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this information in an official statement released on Friday from Abuja.
The operation leading to the arrest was conducted on Thursday, following reliable intelligence regarding the activities at the location. Oyewale revealed that the facility was functioning as a ‘yahoo’ academy, a term commonly used to refer to establishments dedicated to training individuals in online scams and other cybercriminal activities.
During the raid, agents recovered several items that included six luxury vehicles, as well as multiple laptops and mobile phones believed to be tools used in the commission of their alleged crimes.
“Items recovered from the suspects include six exotic cars, laptops, and phones,” stated Oyewale.
He further noted that the detained suspects would face legal proceedings once the ongoing investigations are finalized, emphasizing the EFCC’s commitment to combating cybercrime and related offenses in the region.
