Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved a minor but strategic reshuffle of members of the Edo State Executive Council, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Musa Ikhilor, announced in a statement issued on Friday in Benin City.
According to Ikhilor, the realignment is part of the administration’s broader agenda to strengthen institutional governance, improve public service delivery, and foster operational efficiency across ministries and agencies.
The reshuffle—effective immediately—involves three pivotal appointments:
Mr. Vincent Osas Uwadiae, formerly the Commissioner for Oil and Gas Resources, has been redeployed to head the Ministry of Lands and Housing.
In his new role, he will oversee land use planning, housing development, and related regulatory frameworks critical to urban and rural infrastructure growth.
Mr. Yakubu Oshiorenua Musa, who previously led the Lands and Housing portfolio, has been elevated to the position of Chief of Staff to the Governor, based in the Governor’s Office.
This high-level appointment places him at the nerve center of executive decision-making, where he will coordinate inter-ministerial activities and ensure seamless implementation of the governor’s policy directives.
Alhaji Gani Audu, the outgoing Chief of Staff, has been nominated to return to the Executive Council as Commissioner for Oil and Gas Resources.
His nomination, however, remains subject to formal confirmation by the Edo State House of Assembly, in line with constitutional procedures.
SSG Ikhilor emphasized that these adjustments reflect Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to optimizing talent within his leadership team. He noted that the governor is confident the new configuration will enhance cross-sectoral coordination, accelerate project execution, and reinforce transparent and responsive governance.
While described as a “minor” reshuffle, the changes signal a deliberate recalibration of leadership roles to match evolving state priorities—particularly in sectors like energy, land management, and executive oversight.
The administration assured the public that all transitions will be smooth and that ongoing programs will continue without disruption.
