Jemitola’s Commitment To Environmental Conservation In Edo State.

In the realm of arts and culture, there are individuals who stand out, leaving an indelible mark. Honorable Aanena Jemitola, erstwhile Commissioner for Arts and Culture of Edo State, is one such remarkable individual. Her tenure under the governorship of Adams Oshiomhole witnessed groundbreaking initiatives that elevated the arts scene in Edo State. Among them, the first-ever Edo State Festival of Arts (EDOFEST) in 2014, which showcased the rich cultural heritage and artistic prowess of the state.

This groundbreaking event served as a platform for artists, performers, and artisans to exhibit their talents and celebrate the diverse creative expressions of the state. EDOFEST brought together individuals from different backgrounds, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their work and foster artistic collaboration.

History will also have it that Jemitola didn’t leave her home state the same way she met it. She spearheaded a remarkable initiative to preserve the environment by planting trees in strategic locations of Ososo, Ibilo, Igarra and Benin City.

Her large heart and commitment to environmental conservation in Edo state was again seen on a video she posted on her Facebook page on 23rd June, 2023 with the caption; “soon and very soon we are going to plant more trees…” knowing that involving local residents in the planting process created a sense of ownership and responsibility, she enjoined her friends to be a part of it. I hope every resident of Edo State is her friend and would join her to plant more trees soon and very soon.
