Kada Unity Cup Kicks Off, Governor Pledges Talent Search

The 3rd edition of the Kada Unity Cup commenced Monday at the Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion Mini Stadia, Etete, signaling the start of a two-week football tournament promoting unity among military and paramilitary organizations.

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, speaking at the opening ceremony, pledged to scout and recruit exceptional players from the tournament into the state-owned Bendel Insurance FC.

Governor Okpebholo, represented by his deputy Hon. Dennis Idahosa, hailed the tournament as a celebration of unity, collaboration, discipline, and sportsmanship. He emphasized the Edo State government’s commitment to talent discovery and youth empowerment through the revitalized Edo State Sports Commission.

The governor also outlined plans to extend the talent hunt across all 18 local government areas and high schools in the state, with selected talents receiving professional training.

The opening match saw Correctional Service FC defeat Nigerian Airforce FC with a 3-1 victory. Twelve teams are participating in the tournament, including Nigerian Airforce FC, Nigerian Correctional Service FC, NDLEA FC, Nigerian Army FC, NSCDC, EFCC, Nigerian Fire Service, FRSC, DSS, Immigration, NYSC FC, and defending champions Nigeria Police Force FC. The event was attended by a large crowd including top officials and sports enthusiasts.
