Lagos PDP Delegates Reject Consensus List, Insist on Elective Congress
In a surprising turn of events, delegates at the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Congress rebuffed attempts by the Electoral Committee to persuade them to adopt a consensus list of executive members.
Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, chairman of the committee, appealed to the delegates to support the consensus list, but his efforts were met with resistance. Diri emphasized that the committee’s intention was to promote unity within the party, but the delegates remained resolute in their demand for an elective congress.
“We have been engaging with party leaders since yesterday, and they agreed to present a united front,” Diri said. “However, it seems some delegates have other plans. We will not force anyone to adopt the consensus list, but we urge those who don’t want unity in Lagos PDP to leave.”
The delegates’ revolt marked a significant departure from the expected outcome, highlighting the deep-seated divisions within the party. As the congress proceeds, it remains to be seen whether the PDP can overcome its internal conflicts and emerge stronger.
