The National Open University of Nigeria Alumni Association (NOUNAA) has launched its 2025 scholarship campaign, offering N50,000 tuition grants to prospective students across the nation. The initiative aims to alleviate financial barriers and promote access to quality education for all.
Announced at a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, NOUNAA President Ifeanyi Obukwelu emphasized that the campaign represents more than just a scholarship program. “This is a strategic initiative to bridge financial gaps and eliminate entry barriers,” he stated.

According to Obukwelu, the scholarship is designed to foster a more knowledgeable and skilled populace. It also aims to challenge existing perceptions and build confidence in the effectiveness of distance learning as a viable educational pathway.
“The initiative aims to bridge the knowledge gap by awarding scholarships,” he explained, adding that it’s “intended to contribute to building a knowledgeable, skilled, and inclusive Nigeria while countering skepticism about distance learning.”
The scholarship program is entirely funded by contributions from NOUN alumni, underscoring their dedication to societal contribution and supporting the next generation of learners. “Our alumni once stood where prospective students stand today; they are now rewriting the narrative for the next generation,” Obukwelu highlighted.
While the scholarship is open to all eligible applicants, NOUNAA is prioritizing individuals from underserved communities. The association’s president emphasized the importance of ensuring flexible and quality education reaches those most impacted by financial limitations. The campaign also seeks to boost the reputation of NOUN, showcasing its alumni’s successes in various sectors and bolstering public confidence in the institution.
“The campaign also serves as advocacy for NOUN’s credibility, aiming to enhance the visibility and public acceptance of the institution, which has produced graduates excelling across various industries,” Obukwelu said.
