NWFL Premiership Super Six: Edo Queens, Remo Stars, and Bayelsa Queens Lead Charge for Glory

The 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six is set to ignite this Saturday in Ikenne, Ogun State, as six of the league’s best teams battle for the coveted championship trophy. The tournament, scheduled to run through May 17, promises high-stakes competition and thrilling encounters.

Defending champions Edo Queens, having secured their maiden NWFL Premiership title in 2024 under Coach Moses Aduku, enter the Super Six as the team to beat. Their dominant regular-season performance, coupled with valuable experience gained on the continental stage, positions them as strong contenders.

However, the Cinderella story of the season, Remo Stars Ladies, poses a significant threat. The Ikenne-based team, a relatively new addition to the league, defied expectations to qualify for their first-ever Super Six, finishing second in Group A. With talented forwards Bolaji Olamide and Kafayat Bashiru leading the attack, Remo Stars will enjoy the advantage of playing all their matches on familiar turf. Inspired by their men’s team’s recent NPFL title victory, the “Sky-Blue Ladies” are aiming to become the first privately owned women’s side to claim the league title since Ufuoma Babes in 1996.

Adding to the competitive landscape are perennial powerhouses Bayelsa Queens, who dominated Group B with an undefeated record, amassing 34 points. The five-time league champions will be eager to add another trophy to their illustrious history.

Also in the mix are seven-time league champions Rivers Angels, who are hungry to equal the league record with an eighth title. Rounding out the Super Six contenders are Nasarawa Amazons and Naija Ratels FC, both determined to stake their claim for glory.

The tournament is anticipated to be fiercely contested, with each team boasting a wealth of talent and experienced coaching staff. As the Super Six unfolds in Ikenne, the stage is set for an unpredictable and captivating battle, culminating in one team ultimately hoisting the NWFL Premiership trophy.
