Obaseki Assures Safety and Security of Residents in Meeting with Hausa Community

The Edo State Governor, Mr.  Godwin Obaseki on Wednesday met with the Hausa Community in the state to emphasize his government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.

During the meeting held at the Government House in Benin City, Governor Obaseki commended the community for their contributions to peace and development. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the country’s youth, which often lead to drug abuse and criminal activities, and assured that his government would continue to empower young people to discourage them from engaging in crime.

Obaseki highlighted the reorganization of the security structure, including the establishment of the state vigilante group responsible for preserving security in various communities.

He stated, “The state’s vigilantes, whose job it is to maintain security in the various Communities, are a result of our attempts as a government to reorganize the security apparatus.

“A few of you have been here for years, and during that time we have coexisted peacefully and without bias. We do not take you lightly because you have contributed significantly to the supply of livestock and food, among other things. We’re making sure everything is well. The Hausa Community is not the focus of the security breach. However, a general in society is what we are up against.”

He urged them to continue cooperating with the state government and provide valuable information about criminal elements in society, assuring them of a prompt response.

To ensure effective communication during emergencies, Governor Obaseki urged the community to utilize emergency hotlines such as 112 or 739 to contact the appropriate authorities. The governor assured that the state’s response teams would promptly attend to any situation.
