Obaseki to partner FG to facilitate the reconstruction of Benin-Auchi Road

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to collaborate with the Federal Government on the reconstruction of the pivotal Benin-Auchi Road. This initiative aims to alleviate the distress of travelers and stimulate economic growth in the region.
Following a private discussion with the Otaru of Auchi Kingdom, Alhaji Aliru Momoh Ikelebe III, at the Government House in Benin City, Governor Obaseki revealed the plans. The agenda includes fortifying security within the area and refurbishing the road network that connects Benin to the northern parts of Edo.
Governor Obaseki emphasized the critical role of the Benin-Auchi Road as the backbone of the state’s economy, stating, “We have given our word to the Otaru that we will persist in our efforts with the Federal Government to rebuild the Benin-Auchi Road. Its failure would have profound repercussions on our citizens and the state’s economic well-being.”
He also mentioned proactive measures taken by the Minister of Works, including a request for the Edo State Government to compensate for lands required for the road’s alignment. The governor assured that the necessary support for the road’s construction would be provided promptly.
The governor further highlighted the potential security implications if the road’s condition is not addressed, indicating a possible major security crisis in the state if left unattended.
The Otaru of Auchi Kingdom lauded Governor Obaseki for his developmental initiatives, particularly the revival of the Auchi fertilizer factory, which has become a significant source of employment in the state. He expressed gratitude for the governor’s actions, which have led to continuous operation and job creation at the facility.
Additionally, the monarch reflected on past recommendations to the government regarding the railway system, acknowledging President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts in reintroducing rail transport in Nigeria, which he considers the most economical mode of transportation.
