Police arrest pediatrician for allegedly abusing her housemaid

The police have arrested Dr Chiamaka Ogbonnaya, a pediatrician at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua in Edo State, for allegedly abusing and battering her housemaid, Comfort, who is a Junior Secondary School 2 student.

Ogbonnaya was accused of hitting the girl on her ribs, repeatedly with a mopping stick, cane, and any other objects she could find, and then throwing the girl out and making her eat raw rice.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the arrest, saying, “Dr Ogbonayan Chiamaka of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital was arrested by the Irrua Division for the alleged offence of child abuse and battery.

The matter is currently under the investigation of the Deputy Commissioner of Police. The public will be updated on the outcome of the investigation.”

The Commissioner for Education, Dr Joan Osa Oviawe, said she would comment on the case after she gets the full report of the incident.
