On the sidelines of the ongoing 7-yearly Itakpo festival, that mother of all festivals in Ososo land, which is the investiture of the mantle of leadership on all eligible Ososo male initiates in ceremonial rites that lasts for days, the current Edo State Commissioner for Tourism, Art, Culture and the Diaspora, Prince Dele Obaitan, has received Chiefs of all quarters of Ososo land at the Palace of Ososo Kingdom!

In a Facebook post the Commissioner wrote;

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be appointed the Hon. Commissioner for Edo State Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs by His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, the executive Governor of Edo State.

Not only do I revere our rich Edo culture, heritage and history, I am a part and parcel of that culture.

It was with great pleasure that I received the Chiefs of all quarters of Ososo Kingdom for a courtesy call. I wanted to show my deep gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to them for the crucial roles they play in maintaining justice, peace and equity in our Kingdom. I also promised them to be the best ambassador possible in showcasing our Ososo Kingdom to the world and bringing development to the community and to Edo State as my duties and responsibilities to Edo State.

It is truly a new dawn for Edo State, Akoko Edo LGA and Ososo Kingdom…”

Ikpenna  Quarters of Ososo is about rounding up their  own celebration of the festival, that of Okhe Quarters comes up after, and Akoko Edo  community newspaper will be on ground to bring you a comprehensive report on the Itakpo Festival under our “Festivals Of Akoko-Edo LGA Communities” segment of the paper in the coming days!
