Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has emphasized the unique spiritual opportunity presented by the convergence of Ramadan and Lent, urging Nigerians to leverage this sacred time for intense prayer and national rejuvenation.
In a press statement released on Wednesday, Governor Okpebholo highlighted that the alignment of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan with the Christian Lenten season provides a significant opportunity for reflection, sacrifice, and a renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians. He noted that both religious observances share core values of faith, self-discipline, compassion, and devotion.
The governor called upon Muslims and Christians alike to dedicate their fasting and prayers to seeking divine intervention in addressing the challenges facing Edo State and the nation. He specifically requested fervent prayers for national unity, economic revitalization, improved security, and lasting peace.
“This is a profound moment for our nation,” Governor Okpebholo stated, encouraging citizens to lift Nigeria in prayer and express confidence that collective supplications will help overcome current difficulties and reinforce national unity. He extended his wishes for a spiritually fulfilling Ramadan to Muslims and a grace-filled Lenten season to Christians, expressing hope that this period will bring renewed hope and blessings to families throughout Edo State and beyond.
In related news, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to inclusive governance and equitable development across Edo State, assuring that no community will be marginalized under his leadership.
The Governor made these assurances while receiving members of Owan Conscience, a socio-political group led by Hon. Richard Ofen-Imu, during a courtesy visit to Government House in Benin City. He emphasized that his administration is committed to fairness, justice, and due process, ensuring that every region of Edo State benefits from government policies and programs.
“Edo State, under my leadership, will continue to protect the interests of every locality as we strive to build a new Edo where all citizens can thrive,” Governor Okpebholo affirmed.
He also addressed concerns raised by Owan Conscience, particularly regarding appointments to the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), assuring them that their requests would be reviewed in accordance with the law to ensure the interests of the Owan people are adequately represented.
Governor Okpebholo, describing Owan as his home, reiterated his strong connection to the people and pledged his continued support for their development aspirations.
Hon. Richard Ofen-Imu, on behalf of Owan Conscience, congratulated the governor on his first year in office and his recognition as Governor of the Year 2025 in Education by New Telegraph Newspaper. He stated that the visit was to commend the administration’s progress and address concerns affecting the Owan community, including political inclusion, civil service representation, and appointments to key positions.
Sabina Idowu, another member of the delegation, praised the governor for his sustained engagement with the Owan people and acknowledged the ongoing development projects in the area. She noted that the projects have strengthened public confidence in the government.
“The projects currently ongoing in Owan have reassured us that we made the right choice. As a people, we will continue to support your administration and stand by you to ensure that your promises to Edo people are fulfilled,” she said.
She appealed for greater consideration of Owan’s interests in political appointments, citing concerns about representation within Edo North. The meeting concluded with the governor restating his resolve to run an inclusive government.
