Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu,in his usual compassion to the needy,has offered medical assistance to Salami Abdulraman, an indigent, critically-ill indegene of Ikpeshi Community in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
Succour came the way of the 17 years – old, when the Deputy Governor paid a condolence visit to a bereaved family in the neighborhood.
As he made his way out after the visit, he sighted the pathetic state of the lad, lying helplessly on a bare floor, shivering beside a fire lit to keep him warm.
Shaibu, displayed the humanity in him, when he suddenly ordered his convoy to stop and walked up to where the ailing boy was lying with little hope of survival.
Upon inquiries, the helpless mother who was crying uncontrollably, told the Deputy Governor that her son has been ill for a long time and could not be given necessary medical attention due to lack of funds.
The Deputy Governor immediately directed that the boy be conveyed in the medical ambulance in his convoy to the hospital, paid the medical bills and gave an undisclosed amount of money to support the parents.
The boy’s mother who could not hide her feelings, bursted into tears in appreciation to the Deputy Governor for his kind gesture.
Some persons who witnessed Shaibu’s intervention marveled at his magnanimity.
As at press time, the young Salami was being attended to by the medical team and he is responding positively to treatment.
