Dr. Tony Aziegbemi has been re-elected as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, securing a second term in a congress that party leaders hailed as a turning point for the party’s future.
The congress, held on Saturday, drew 917 accredited delegates from all 18 local government areas of the state.
Supervised by a panel from the PDP national headquarters led by Mr. Tariga Tulagha, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, the congress followed strict party guidelines despite most candidates, including Aziegbemi, running unopposed. After hours of accreditation and voting, the newly constituted State Executive Committee was officially declared.
In his post-election remarks, Aziegbemi described the process as “seamless and historic,” emphasizing that the peaceful conduct and overwhelming turnout signaled a renewed confidence in the party’s leadership.
“This congress marks the rebirth of the PDP in Edo State,” he said.
“Our delegates voted with maturity and unity, showing that we are ready to reclaim our place.”
Aziegbemi pledged that the new leadership would work tirelessly to restore PDP’s influence across key political corridors in the state.
“We will not take this mandate for granted. Edo people are yearning for good governance, and we are prepared to deliver,” he affirmed.
He acknowledged the presence of prominent party figures including Chief Tom Ikimi, Senator Clifford Odia, and members of the Edo State House of Assembly, and thanked INEC officials and observers for ensuring transparency throughout the process.
Reflecting on his first term, Aziegbemi credited party members for their resilience and support.
“Together, we returned PDP to Government House, secured victories in local councils, and built a strong legislative presence. Today, you’ve renewed our mandate to lead again.”
Looking ahead, Aziegbemi positioned the congress as a strategic launchpad for the party’s resurgence in the 2027 and 2028 elections.
“This is more than an internal election—it’s a declaration of intent. We are building a formidable force to reclaim Edo and Nigeria from the failures of the APC-led administration,” he said.
Other members elected into the State Executive Committee include Victor Enoghama (Deputy Chairman), Henry Duke Tenebe (Secretary), Monday Osaigbovo (Vice Chairman South), Richard Anetekhai (Vice Chairman North), and Adekunle Oboh (Vice Chairman Central), among others. The newly elected team will serve a four-year term.
