Suspected kidnappers have abducted two brothers, Dr. Abu Ibrahim Babatunde and Abu Tahir, in Auchi, Edo State, sparking a coordinated search-and-rescue operation by security agencies.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, in Etsako West Local Government Area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the brothers arrived at their residence around 7:30 p.m. after Babatunde, who is currently undergoing housemanship at the Edo State Teaching Hospital, Auchi, returned from work.
As Tahir stepped out of their vehicle to open the gate, armed assailants emerged from hiding and abducted both men at gunpoint. The attackers reportedly whisked them into the nearby bush before fleeing the scene.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, ASP Eno Ikoedem, spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, said the command received a distress call on Friday and immediately deployed operatives to the area.
She explained that a coordinated manhunt was launched, involving: Police operatives, Local vigilantes, Forest guards and Community Safety Partnership Volunteers familiar with the terrain.
ASP Ikoedem noted that aggressive search-and-rescue operations have been ongoing in the surrounding forest since the abduction. She assured residents that the command is determined to secure the safe release of the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The command will leave no stone unturned to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted brothers,” she said.
The incident has heightened concerns about security in Auchi and surrounding communities, with residents calling for stronger measures to curb kidnapping and violent crimes in Edo State.
