Workers Day: Obaseki hails Edo workers, assures on implementation of institutional reforms to sustain policies on welfare

In recognition of the 2023 Worker’s Day celebration, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, has highlighted the state government’s efforts in implementing institutional reforms to maintain the progress made in enhancing workers’ welfare.

The governor pointed out that these reforms encompass new legislation, capacity building programs, and policy modifications that contribute to the development of a robust and dynamic workforce.

He stated, “We have significantly upgraded the compensation and benefits system for workers, positioning Edo as the sub-national entity with the most competitive salary structure in Nigeria. We are investing in our workers’ health and well-being. We have initiated an affordable health insurance scheme that has facilitated improved access to quality healthcare for all workers. We are also implementing a contributory pension scheme that will ensure consistent pension payments for our retired workers.

“Our dedication to workers’ welfare goes beyond just compensation and benefits. We are investing to ensure that our workers have a positive and rewarding work experience. Our aim is to transform the traditionally dull and uninspiring public sector work environment into one that is stimulating and enjoyable.

“We are committed to enhancing the quality of work life for our workers by implementing initiatives that foster employee engagement, job satisfaction, and a sense of purpose in their work.”

He added, “I sincerely express my gratitude to all our workers who continually dedicate their time, skills, and energy to the improvement of our State. While I urge all of us to remain steadfast in our efforts towards constructing a progressive and prosperous Edo State, I reassure you that, as a government, we will persist in providing the resources and infrastructure necessary for your success, ensuring that every worker is treated with dignity and respect, and every citizen has access to opportunities for individual and collective growth.”
