Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to direct governance, stating that he will not depend on external consultants to manage state affairs. This declaration was made during an oath-taking ceremony held on Tuesday for newly appointed members of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service, Local Government Service Commission, Edo State Sports Commission, and Permanent Secretaries.
In his address, Governor Okpebholo emphasized the importance of enhancing governance in Edo, saying, “We are here today in pursuit of a better society as we swear in members of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service, members of the State Local Governments Commission, members of the State Sports Commission, and permanent Secretaries.”
He elaborated on his vision for the state, insisting that his administration is committed to making a significant impact in governance, which he considers a central promise of his campaign.
“My administration will not rely on the use of consultants in running the affairs of the state,” Okpehbolo stated, underscoring his intention to foster a governance framework that prioritizes local expertise. He added,
“It is obvious that my administration is set to make a huge difference in governance, which is my campaign promise to the good people of Edo State.” He acknowledged the challenges ahead, asserting, “We want to take up this challenge very responsibly because things cannot remain the way they are.”
The governor also expressed his determination to elevate standards in governance, infrastructure, and social services. He assured the newly sworn-in officials, “We will support you with everything you need to succeed,” reinforcing his administration’s focus on collaboration and support.
Addressing the Permanent Secretaries, Okpebholo remarked, “We will assist you in building a public service that will be responsive to innovation as we would not allow consultants to do your new jobs. We will continue to support you.”
He concluded his remarks by emphasizing accountability, stating, “As you resume a new duty, we would constantly hold you accountable when and where necessary.”
In response, Oladele Bankole-Balogun, Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service, expressed appreciation for the governor’s confidence in the newly appointed officials and pledged to work collaboratively to ensure the success of the Okpebholoadministration.
Among the other officials sworn in during the ceremony were Damian Lawani, Chairman of the Local Government Services Commission; Amadin Desmond Enabulele, Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission; and Dr. Paul Ehienwerio, Permanent Secretary in the Edo State Civil Service, among others.
