The Edo Council of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) have lauded the appointment of Mr. John Odior as Executive Chairman of the Edo Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), describing him as the right choice to lead the agency.
The commendation was made on Wednesday when the State Chairman of the TUC and ASCSN, Mr. Joseph James Wasa, led executive members and affiliates on a courtesy visit to the EIRS headquarters in Benin City to congratulate the new chairman.
Wasa thanked Governor Monday Okpebholo for the appointment, saying it reflected the governor’s confidence in Odior’s competence and leadership abilities. He expressed optimism that the new chairman would reposition the revenue service, describing him as a seasoned professional with the experience needed to move the agency forward.
According to Wasa, Odior has already recorded notable achievements, including prompt payment of workers’ salaries, regularisation of ad hoc staff, improved office facilities, provision of modern work tools, and sustained growth in the state’s internally generated revenue.
“We are here to formally congratulate you on your new role. When we heard of your appointment, we were delighted because of the confidence we have in your ability to deliver. We thank the governor for appointing you,” Wasa said.
The labour leader also pledged the union’s commitment to dialogue and constructive engagement in resolving labour issues. He urged the revenue service to step up public enlightenment on tax compliance through radio and television campaigns to encourage voluntary tax payment.
“You have continued to exhibit strong character of integrity and competence through prompt payment of staff salaries, as well as overseeing consistent increase in Edo’s internally generated revenue,” he added.
Responding, Odior thanked the labour leaders for the visit and pledged to sustain ongoing reforms, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen revenue generation in support of the state’s development.
He also appealed to union leaders to continue encouraging workers to remain committed and productive, stressing that a dedicated workforce is critical to building a stronger tax administration.
