The Nigeria Police Force, Edo Command, officially retired Commissioner of Police Mr. Umoru Ozigi on Saturday, marking the end of a distinguished career in law enforcement as he reached the mandatory retirement age of 60.
The retirement ceremony, held in Benin City, was attended by fellow officers, family members, and various dignitaries, who celebrated his years of dedicated service with a parade and a festive atmosphere.
Born on January 25, 1965, Ozigi began his career in the police force in 1992, enlisting as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). Throughout his tenure, he has been recognized for his leadership and commitment to maintaining law and order in Edo State.
In his farewell address, Ozigi expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force for their support and guidance throughout his career. He acknowledged the dedication and bravery of his fellow officers, as well as the unwavering support from his family.
Ozigi also extended his appreciation to the government and citizens of Edo State for their cooperation in crime prevention and community engagement initiatives.
“I urge you to remain steadfast in your duty, serve with passion, and uphold the values of the profession,” he advised the officers present, emphasizing the importance of their role in fostering a safe environment for the community.
Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, delivered a goodwill message, praising Ozigi as a God-fearing officer who successfully addressed the challenges of cult-related violence during his tenure.
He highlighted Ozigi’s efforts in restoring peace and stability to the state, stating, “We are here to thank you for your sacrifices and outstanding service to the people of the state.”
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Mr. Arungwa Nwazue, also commended Ozigi for his exceptional contributions to both Edo State and the nation.
He remarked, “Retiring does not mean you are tired. We will look forward to you for advice based on your enormous experience,” underscoring the lasting impact of Ozigi’s legacy within the police force.
