The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Dennis Idahosa, on Tuesday expressed strong support for plans by the Edo Music Elders Forum to honour late music legends from the state.
Idahosa gave the endorsement when he received members of the forum on a courtesy visit at the Government House in Benin.
The deputy governor said the state government appreciated the forum’s efforts to preserve the legacy of veteran musicians and promote Edo’s rich cultural heritage.
He also promised to reach out to the management of the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub regarding the forum’s request to use the facility for its remembrance programme scheduled for August 28, subject to the venue’s availability.
Idahosa further expressed his willingness to attend the event, adding that he would send a representative if official engagements prevented his personal attendance.
Earlier, the Chairman of the forum, Roland Igbinigie, popularly known as “Akaba Man”, explained that the visit was to seek government support for the forum’s initiative to annually honour departed music legends.
Igbinigie stated that the maiden edition would commemorate the late Sir Victor Uwaifo and other deceased Edo music icons.
He appealed for approval to use the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub for the event, noting that the initiative was aimed at preserving the contributions of late musicians and inspiring younger generations through the celebration of their works.
