Amadin Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, has called for a collaborative effort among stakeholders to leverage sports as a means to unite Nigerian youth and create numerous job opportunities.
During the opening ceremony of the South-South Zonal Eliminations for ball games, held in Benin on Tuesday, Enabulele emphasized the crucial role of sports in promoting unity, discipline, and youth empowerment.
Describing the elimination games as a critical step toward the upcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) in Ogun, he urged athletes and sports administrators to embrace values such as friendship, teamwork, and respect, which extend beyond mere competition.
“We must continue to harness the power of sports to bring our youths together and build a future filled with opportunities for them,” Enabulele stated.
Addressing competitors from Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta states, Enabulele encouraged them to approach their events with passion, determination, and sportsmanship.
“You are not just representing your states; you are showcasing the strength, resilience, and talent of the South-South region. Give it your best, and let your performance speak for itself,” he said.
He also highlighted the vital role of match officials and referees, asserting that their fairness and professionalism are essential to maintaining the integrity of the tournament.
“We expect nothing but impartial and professional judgment to ensure that the best teams emerge victorious,” Enabulele noted.
Peter Njoku, the zonal coordinator of the National Sports Commission, shared that a total of 688 athletes, including 310 males and 378 females, are competing in various events. He expressed optimism that the South-South region would excel at the NSF 2025, given the remarkable talent being showcased in the eliminations.
