The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Dennis Idahosa, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration to accelerating development across the state as Edo marks its 35th anniversary.
Idahosa gave the assurance in a goodwill message on Wednesday in Benin while congratulating residents on the milestone. Edo and Delta States were created on August 27, 1991, from the then Bendel State by the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.
The deputy governor described the creation of Edo State as a defining moment in the history of its people. He noted that over the past 35 years, Edo indigenes have made remarkable contributions to Nigeria and the global community in education, agriculture, commerce, politics, sports, entertainment, and various professional fields.
Idahosa acknowledged the contributions of successive administrations to the development of the state, stating that their efforts had laid a solid foundation for the present government to build upon. He said the Okpebholo-led administration is accelerating development through its SHINE Agenda, with a strong focus on infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, human capital development, and economic growth.
According to him, the government is currently reconstructing and rehabilitating major roads, strengthening the healthcare and education sectors, and improving the state’s security architecture. The administration is also committed to attracting investments, creating jobs and opportunities for youths, restoring public confidence in government, and ensuring that development reaches communities across the state.
“The work may be enormous, but our determination is greater,” Idahosa stated, stressing that the government remains focused on building an Edo where businesses can thrive and residents prosper.
He identified the people as the greatest asset of the state and called for greater unity and collective commitment to its development. The deputy governor urged Edo people to use the anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on the achievements and challenges of the past 35 years and to renew their commitment to building a better future.
“On behalf of my family and the government of the state, I congratulate every Edo son and daughter on this auspicious occasion. May the next 35 years bring greater prosperity, peace, security, development and opportunities to our people,” he said.
Idahosa wished residents of the state a happy 35th anniversary and prayed for continued peace, progress, and prosperity in Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.
