Edo State Attorney General, Dr. Samson Osagie, has called upon the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to operate within the confines of the law, emphasizing the importance of academic excellence and the representation of all student interests.
The Attorney General made this charge during a courtesy visit by NANS delegates to the Ministry of Justice in Benin City.
“As representatives of all students, members of the Association should ensure to protect the interest of all Edo students,” Dr. Osagie stated, stressing the need for students to prioritize their studies and maintain high academic standards.
He further encouraged the students to leverage the opportunities presented by the National Student Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative, a program introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to support students across the nation.
Dr. Osagie also affirmed the Edo State Government’s commitment, under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo, to fostering an environment conducive to the success of students in tertiary institutions within the state.
“The Edo State Government is committed to providing an enabling environment for students in tertiary institutions to thrive,” he declared.
Earlier, Comrade Ojumoola Timileyin, Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Edo Axis, expressed the association’s willingness to collaborate with the Attorney General’s office. He lauded the state government for the measures implemented to safeguard the rights and welfare of students and commended Dr. Osagie for the progress achieved in the justice sector under his leadership.
“The Association [is ready] to collaborate with the Office of the Attorney General,” Comrade Timileyin stated, while also thanking the government for their commitment to student welfare.
The meeting culminated in the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Dr. Osagie by Comrade Ojumoola Timileyin, Chairman of NANS, Edo Axis, recognizing his contributions to the state’s justice system and his support for students.
