The Edo State Government, has conducted a compulsory examination for Administrative and Executive Officers within the State and Local Government services to bolster the efficiency and morale of its civil servants.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Office of the Head of Service through the Directorate of Human Resource Management and the John-Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), aligns with the Governor’s vision of strengthening the public sector through strategic human resource development.
The two-day examination provided an opportunity for staff who had previously missed similar assessments to participate, paving the way for future promotions and career progression.
Mrs. Bose Igbinobaro, Permanent Secretary of Human Resource Management within the Office of the Head of Service, underscored the significance of the examination. “The Public Service Rules makes provisions for it,” she stated, “without which the categories of workers will not advance in Service.” She emphasized that the examination is a crucial step for career advancement within the public sector.
Prior to the examination, a pre-examination training session was held to prepare participants. Addressing the Local Government workers on the first day of the examination, Director General of JOOPSA, Mrs. Gina Otamere, urged participants to maintain decorum and give their best effort. “Be of good conduct throughout the process and to give the examination their best shot to succeed,” she advised.
Feedback from participants has been largely positive, with many expressing gratitude to the Edo State Government for the opportunity. Some voiced satisfaction with the organization and conduct of the examination process.
The compulsory examination serves as a fundamental requirement for the confirmation of appointments and subsequent promotion of staff within the Edo State Civil Service, as outlined in the Public Service Rules (PSR) applicable throughout the Federation. This initiative represents a key component of the Edo State Government’s ongoing commitment to developing a highly skilled and motivated public service.
