Hon. Dr. Maureen Ekhoragbon (JP), Executive Chairman of the Edo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education (EDOBTVE), recently led an inspection team to Benin Technical College in Benin City to assess the state of its facilities and long-dormant machinery.
The inspection, which took place earlier this week, revealed significant delays in the installation of vital equipment, some of which have remained unoperational for over five years since their procurement.
The visit is aligned with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision of providing equitable access to high-quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across Edo State. It underscores the administration’s commitment to equipping Edo youth with the practical, industry-relevant skills necessary for securing employment and fostering self-reliance.
During the inspection, Hon. Ekhoragbon expressed gratitude to Governor Okpebholo for his steadfast support and visionary leadership in the advancement of TVET within the state. However, she also conveyed serious concerns regarding the protracted delays in equipment installation and infrastructural upgrades. She emphasized that the situation has hampered the practical application of theoretical knowledge by students and hindered the delivery of crucial hands-on training.
The Executive Chairman, accompanied by senior and management staff of the Board, has taken decisive action to address the issue. She has mandated that all contractors involved in the stalled installation processes and infrastructural projects be summoned to provide a formal explanation for the delays. Furthermore, they are required to present a concrete plan for the immediate completion of all outstanding works.
This proactive tour underscores the EDOBTVE’s dedication to revitalizing technical colleges throughout Edo State, ensuring that these institutions are fully equipped to provide the skills-based education necessary for the state’s future workforce. The Board is committed to creating learning environments that effectively bridge the gap between theory and practice, empowering students with the competencies needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market.
